In March of 2005, we participated in the annual Spring Festival, called Haru Matsuri, at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) in Toronto.

We were very fortunate to be able to participate in this prestigious celebration of Japanese customs and tradition.

Being our first professional demonstration in front of a huge crowd, we were understandably very nervous.

But luckily we had the wherewithal to have the demonstration videotaped.

Here is an actual video featuring Dayman Perry and Dennis Wiens performing a spear kata at this Haru Matsuri 2005 Festival, our inaugural demonstration at the JCCC.

We also asked the audience members what they had thought of the performance and here is what one person said:

“I attended your demonstration at the JCCC during the Haru Matsuri. I must say that I was very impressed at how informative and incredible that experience was! I think that the “Itto-Ryu” was even more than a swordsmanship lesson to me. It was a life lesson! Thank you so very much, for such an awesome experience!”

In retrospect, Haru Matsuri 2005 was really a ground-breaking event that started our long-standing relationship with the JCCC and ultimately paved the way for our many years of demonstrating and performing at the JCCC. We have enjoyed each and every opportunity.

I must express my deep gratitude and thanks to the late Jim Ura, who gave us a chance and believed in us!
