Mixed Martial Arts Expo

Tokumeikan demonstrated at the Mixed Martial Arts Expo in 2006 and 2008. We showed the crowds our practice of Katori Shinto Ryu swordsmanship at what has been the largest gathering of martial artists in Canada.

Mixed Martial Arts Expo Instructors Group

The MMA Expo typically boasts 40 world-class instructors across more than a dozen different martial arts from traditional styles to MMA. For traditional martial arts, a good cross-section of arts are usually represented from unarmed arts like karate, jujutsu, and kung fu to armed arts like Okinawan weapons (staff, nunchaku) and sword styles.

At our seminars, which typically covered 2 days, we consistently had good turnouts. Every year, we were full to capacity on both days, with many people returning on the second day eager to learn more about our art. Both years, it was a great time and people had a lot of fun.

We feel very honoured to have been invited to this event. It has been a great chance to observe martial arts traditions from around the world, and to demonstrate amongst so many fellow practitioners.

Our sincere thanks to Gerald Chopik (organizer of the MMA Expo) for giving us the opportunity to show our art to the public and for allowing us to be a part of this great assemblage of martial artists. Looking forward to doing it again!

“Each year we strive to include traditional martial arts seminars in the Mixed Martial Arts Expo program and it is always a pleasure to have Sensei Tong’s Japanese swordsmanship as part of the curriculum. Sensei Tong can be counted on to deliver insightful and compelling seminars and each year participants rave about the opportunity to experience this unique martial art.”
